Description
From high up on Donner Pass this breathtaking vista opens up a spectacular view of Donner Lake. This is the site of the infamous "Donner Party", a group of American pioneers who set out for California in a wagon train. Delayed by a series of mishaps, they spent the winter of 1846–47 snowbound in the Sierra Nevada. Some of the emigrants resorted to cannibalism to survive, eating those who had succumbed to starvation and sickness.

Quite a history to this lake that is about an hour and a half from my hometown in California. I live in Oregon now, but I still travel by this beautiful lake from time to time. Your photograph of it in winter is spectacular and special! Very well done :) F/V
