Description
Kansas is #3 in the US, after North Dakota and Texas, for wind energy potential as measured by annual wind energy potential in billions of killowat hours, factoring in environmental and land use exculsions. Each year Gray County Wind Energy Center is expected to produce enough electricity to power 35,000 homes.
Each tower is 213 feet tall to the hub in the center of the blades. The blades are more than 77 feet long. The diameter of the tower at the base is 12 feet. About 1 acre of land is used for each turbine.
These turbines are manufactured by Vestas Wind Systems in Denmark, the largest wind turbine company in the world. Each turbine cost about $1-2 Million per megawatt of capacity.
