Coyote With Dinner

Description
I often see coyotes in the open space, trying to catch something to eat. Usually if they're out hunting during the day, it means they are hungry and probably were not successful at at night (they are nocturnal animals). But they are typically unsuccessful at catching anything during the day, at least when I see them. Not so with this one, who caught a rabbit and then got busy eating it! S/he looks quite healthy, so is probably a good hunter.
Coyotes are formidable in the field where they enjoy keen vision and a strong sense of smell. They can run up to 40 miles an hour. In the fall and winter, they form packs for more effective hunting. Coyotes are smaller than wolves and are sometimes called prairie wolves or brush wolves. They communicate with a distinctive call, which at night often develops into a raucous canine chorus.
