Description
Agathla Peak is located south of Monument Valley outside of Kayenta, Arizona. Agathla is a Navajo name meaning "much wool". Native Americans would gather antelope and deer fur that would accumulate at the rock. The Spaniards named the rock "El Capitan".
Agathla Peak is a volcanic plug that is common in Navajo Country and is part of the Navajo Volcanic Field on the Colorado Plateau. It stands 1,436 feet tall.
