Description
As I’m in the process of laying out the page spreads for my new book, it’s become abundantly clear that I need more skyline shots. So with a plan in hand that included 6 shots, I came down to the city this morning at an hour I dare not mention. Most of the shots I wanted to capture were long exposure skyline/sunrise shots which required me to carry a tripod which I absolutely positively DETEST. Of course, since I put all this effort into planning the shots and getting up at an unreasonable hour, wouldn’t you know the weather decided to not cooperate. The winds were too stiff and the sky had too many clouds… and it rained. Nothing seemed to work out the way I planned.
Not really in the mood to shoot or be in the city, I packed everything up and high-tailed it to the nearest CTA station. Walking back to the train, I spied this scene from the corner of my eye. I must have been a sight to see as I was frantically trying to get the camera out of the bag and mount the correct lens. When you can capture moments like this, it just makes it all worthwhile. Images like this are why I have a passion for photography.
As I reached the CTA station, the sky cleared up, no more rain and blue sky’s for as far as I could see, but I didn’t care! This image made it all worthwhile and I smiled all the way home.
All proceeds will be donated to Chicago's Cornerstone Community Outreach in honor of photographer Richard Cleis, 1965-2021.
