Description
Chicago – Looking North On Wabash Avenue
This picture was taken in May 2012 and is looking north on Wabash Avenue. If you look closely at the left-center, you will see the old Washington-Wabash CTA station. This would be torn down in March of 2015 at replaced in 2017 with a $75 million new station.
Wabash Avenue takes its name from the Wabash River located in Indiana and Ohio. Wabash is an English version of the Algonquin name for the waterway, meaning “White Shining River” and is in reference to its limestone riverbed.
In this photograph, there are four road intersections. On the bottom part of the picture is Wabash Avenue and Monroe Street. The next intersection is Wabash Avenue and Madison Street, which you can see just on the other side of the Jewelers Center sign. The third intersection is Wabash Avenue and Washington Street which is parallel to the end of the triangular roof of the CTA platform. The fourth and final intersection is Wabash Avenue and Randolph Street which is just before the Park sign in the distance. There you have it, three and a half city blocks in this one photograph.
All proceeds will be donated to Chicago's Cornerstone Community Outreach in honor of photographer Richard Cleis, 1965-2021.
