Here's another action shot of "Mr. Bud" The Douglas Squirrel telling Mr. Blue Steller's Jay, he too needs to get off of "his deck". These two play a game of "cat and mouse" otherwise known as " Squirrel and Bird"... They both have gotten a little hurt at one time or the other. But, I think they are really playmates. Mr. Bud lets out the wild "car alarm" noise to let Mr. Steller's Jay know he means business. I didn't realize that these Steller's Jay can imitate many sounds just like a Mina Bird can. The Stellar Jay imitates the Douglas squirrel perfectly. The best trick this Stellar Jay has is "He makes an Eagle sound, or a Hawk sound) this consequently scares off the squirrel, and the seeds then belong to him. All is right with "Bud the squirrel's" world. Here's a few factoids about Steller's Jays. The Stellers jay is a bold and aggressive species frequently found scavenging in campgrounds, picnic areas, and feeding stations in the West. The birds flight is strong and steady, with wings rarely flexed above horizontal. A nearly unmistakable dark blue, black-crested jay with variable white or blue markings on the head. The wings and tail are a vivid blue, with fine black barring. The head, including the crest; back; and throat are blackish. Juveniles are washed with brownish or grayish to the upperparts and are duller below.
