Description

The Byodo-In Temple is a replica of a much larger temple in Uji, Japan, built over 900 years ago. This temple and grounds is a major tourist attraction in Kaneohe on the eastern windward side of the island of Oahu in Hawaii. It draws hundreds of thousands of sightseers every year. I could be wrong. The number could be much higher. Locals also bring their families and visitors here.

Another image in this collection shows the large gong or bell that can be rung. There is a procedure; draw back the hammer and let it fall to the bell. But you must not let it hit twice. Belief is that it brings good luck and prosperity.

Beside being an enjoyable place to spend a few hours, photographers, like myself, find magnificent photos ops all over these beautiful grounds, which includes black swans and koi.
