Description
I was just a child when my parents left me with Mr Brown. I was born just after the great war that ravaged the earth. They said they were going to find us somewhere else to live, somewhere where the grass was green and the skies blue. I cried for months after they left and Mr Brown worked me so hard and abused me everyday. By the evening I was so tired but I still waited by the door for my parents to come back and get me as they said they would.
The days and weeks passed and I waited patiently by the door, my hope slowly waning as months turned into years. I had no friends, no family, and no one seemed to care about me. Mr Brown was cruel and demanding and I was constantly in fear of his wrath. I often dreamt of my parents return and the life we could have had. I imagined us living in a place where the grass was green and the skies were blue, a place far from here.
But no matter how hard I wished, my parents never came back for me.
The years passed and the world around me changed. I ran away from Mr Brown one day while he slept, I finally accepted the fact that my parents had sold me to Mr Brown and they would never return. The sky grew dark and the sun disappeared. The air was heavy and oppressive, the stars seemed to be extinguished one by one, until the night sky was a blanket of black. This darkness brought a feeling of despair and hopelessness to my soul.
I was told of the once lush and vibrant forests of my town but it was now charred and lifeless, rivers ran black with no fish or life in them. The land was an empty wasteland. It was difficult to find food and water and only those with a strong will and determination could survive.
I watched as the people around me slowly began to lose their grip on reality, succumbing to the despair and darkness surrounding us. Some retreated into madness while others succumbed to their own despair and perished.
I knew that I had to find a way to survive in this dark world, and so I did. I scavenged for food, found shelter when possible and fought for survival. Men would often find me and I was easy prey for their depravity. I learned how to fight and how to protect myself and I was able to mostly fight off these monsters that called themselves men and win, mostly. I learned skills that would become invaluable in this new world.
I slowly adapted to this new life, this new world, and I grew to be strong, resilient and determined. I no longer waited for my parents to come back and save me, for I had saved myself. I had become a survivor in a world of darkness and despair.
I was no longer a child, waiting by the door. I was now a warrior, determined to survive. I no longer feared the darkness, I embraced it, and I vowed to never lose hope, no matter what.

Really love this - visually stunning. Have you added it to the Mystery group, as it would go so well there. I think Mr Brown killed the parents and kept their bodies in the cellar. :)
