This beautiful blue bird with a white collar is a collared kingfisher. Kingfishers belong to the family Halcyonidae, the tree kingfishers. It is also known as the white-collared kingfisher or mangrove kingfisher. These birds range from the Red Sea across southern Asia and Australasia to Polynesia. He was spotted at a pond behind an eco lodge in the forested hills above Suva, Fiji. The Republic of Fiji is an island country in Melanesia in the South Pacific. Fiji is a paradise of 333 tropical islands in the South Pacific, north of New Zealand.
