That most definitely helps, ..so noted in my photo journal. We'll be heading to Asheville in October and will be up on the Parkway Drive during full color.. Thanks so much, for all the info!!

That's exactly why I'm so impressed with your image! Your clarity of detail from close up to the far regions of the Blue Ridge.. is outstanding! (would love to know the lens settings you used, if you wish to share..thanks)

Michael Weeks replied:

Thanks again for the encouragement and kind words. I do not recall the exact lens setting. I can say though that I was quite close to the azalea, so I would bet that the lens is at about 28-35mm. I use the standard 28-135 lens that came with my Canon 40D. I did look back at the other settings for that picture. The aperture for this photo was F/18 and the shutter speed was 1/30th of a second. The wide setting of the lens and the high aperture why everything is in focus from background to foreground. On a recent trip to the mountains I had to use F/18 or above to get everything in focus, preferably F/29 or 32 if the light allowed. I hope this helps.

Absolutely gorgeous scene, Michael. Love this part of the country, and especially your composition with the Rhododendrons ..very nicely done! good luck! (v/f)

Michael Weeks replied:

Thank you for the kind words Richard and thank you for the vote. I will have to say that shooting the rhododendron and other flowers within the landscape is one of the hardest things for me. It is always tricky, the exposure and the focus. This particular rhododendron is the Pinxter Flower, pink azalea and the scientific name is Rhododendron Nudiflorium. This azalea has always interested me a lot. You do not see that many of them in the mountains in comparison to the Flame Azalea or the Catawba Rhododendron. Thanks again for the encouraging words and have a good day.
