Description
These particular pelecypoda, though encased in their calcium carbonate two-part shells, gather food through their gills, and in the process, clean the water around them.
Homo Sapiens, though unable to adapt to underwater living, gather food via dredges or tongs (See "Patuxent Tonger" in my Shore Lines gallery).
They then shuck them so they may be slurped, fried, chowda'd, souffled or offered in any of a legion of other shore favorite preparations.
The finest of these mollusks are reputed to come from Chincoteague Sound in Virginia, but samples that are fit to be eaten are found in many other locations.
Yummy and reputed to confer other carnal benefits.
This was another lunchtime display at Nantucket's Cisco Brewery.
