Description
Fort Pulaski National Monument is located on Cockspur Island between Savannah and Tybee Island, Georgia. It took 30 hours of cannon and mortar bombardment from the Union to breach the southeast wall of the fort that lead to the Confederate surrender. After the surrender it was used by the Union as a prison for captured Confederate soldiers. There is still a cannon ball wedged into the wall visible today.
