Geese on the pond add their song to an autumn afternoon.
There is a quiet sense of purpose to their waddling across the path, gaggling together as they move to the next spot. The traveler, stepping in, stops before the geese to let them pass. There is no hurry to get to the farmhouse because it is there waiting for him or her, lights glowing gently from the windows in a warm welcome.
The artwork, Autumn Dreams, invites the viewer to become this traveler – a long lost prodigal heading home after a weary time in the world, perhaps. Or maybe a college student returning for Thanksgiving break, released from the confines of dorm life and the relentless schedule of papers and textbook assignments.
As with many representational artworks, Autumn Dreams tells a story, one that it invites the viewer to create and embellish, and the details of who it is arriving to this welcoming farm home, and what that person’s tale is, is up to the viewer to decide. What is certain is that the place of arrival is a welcome, and welcoming, one – a refuge and respite from the world outside where there is warmth and laughter, good food and good company, security and acceptance, within.
Isn’t that what home is – or should be? As human beings, we seek out the company of one another – not just to be busy and occupied, for there is enough busy-ness and occupation in our day to day work lives – but to connect, heart to heart and soul to soul with our brothers and sisters on this planet.
It is for this reason that home – with its family that should be a group that warmly and lovingly embraces us – is so important in our lives, our memories, our future, and our now. Enter into the world of Autumn Dreams, and be in a place of goodness and life.
