Description
Two antique bicycles lean against a tree in a grassy place. Invented in 1871, the penny-farthing, also called high wheeler or ordinary, had a very large front wheel and a much smaller rear wheel, which made riding precarious. The subsequent development of the bicycle chain made it possible for two smaller wheels of the same size to be linked together. This new bike was much safer and easier to ride. Nice image.... I did some commercial work for a museum a while ago and they let me have a go on a penny farthing which scared me to death - strange how they ever came up with such a very odd design!
