Love all these trains David. When I was a kid we lived across the road from a train station. Commuter and freight trains ran by all the time. Philadelphia was the home to three railroads. The Pennsylvania RR, The B&O (Baltimore and Ohio), and The Reading Railroad. They all had big stations or sheds with arched roofs for protection.
David Birchall replied:
Thanks Ira. It's wonderful nostalgia. Steam traction in England didn't end until 1968, so growing up as a young boy I was lucky enough to see the last few years. My friends and I would spend many happy hours on station platforms, and sneaking around the local engine sheds. If we got really lucky occasionally a kindly footplate crew would invite us into the cab, and that made us feel really special! I'll be out there with my camera again as soon as they get clearance to start up again, post Covid.
