Description
Prairie Girls on the homestead. We know that homesteading was difficult, there were many hardships, and yet, we know too there must have been a joy in overcoming these difficulties. Joy found in children, delight in marriage, and the teamwork that had to be in place for things to work correctly. In this painting, we see three prairie girls leaving their facial features to your imagination. The eldest carries a basket of flowers.
I have been experimenting with two styles. Swedish Mid Century Pottery It is great pleasure that I dedicate some paintings to Praire Girls and Women. In honor of my Grandmother, I have opted to have two styles, one set inspired by Swedish Mid Century Pottery, which is without a face, and one group of paintings has the faces I imagined painted on them. I honor my Grandmother's memory with this artwork.
A Little Back Story
In the early 1970s, my Grandfather, diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma, and my Grandmother decided that they would travel to Europe before his illness progressed. It was in Sweeden that my Grandmother began to collect ceramic statuettes - hand-made pottery, figurines that often did not have faces. My Grandmother loved looking at this pottery and talked to me in detail about her trip, my Grandfather, and how these pieces of art allowed me to imagine how it might look. I still look at her pottery, I consider the faces, and I remember my Grandmother.
In this series of paintings - I am delighted to combine her love of books and teaching with her enjoyment of art and imagination.
