1806 The Museum

We stopped by a little museum in Winchester Ky in August. Tucked away in a corner was an area dedicated to one of their locals, Homer Ledford. Homer was not only a Bluegrass musician but a very accomplished craftsman who built guitars, violins and his renowned dulcimers. Musicians from all over the world have sought after his dulcimers, banjos, mandolins, guitars and ukuleles. This piece was hanging on a far-wall in the replication of Homers’ work-shop, with a tag below it that only said “1806”. This would have been well before Homers time, and no one at the museum could tell me the history of the violin…. It caused my thoughts to stray,,,

Regardless of the genre or the era, music has an affect on us. It can make us joyful, boost our spirits, fuel our creativity, and so many other things… Someone said “Music is something that’s inspiring and can match your moods”. Growing up in Boys Town, music was often the boundary breaker between kids of different cultures, races, and backgrounds. I can’t speak for those inspired by their involvement in the choir, but I believe music gave them a way of expression, a way of communicating how they felt when there was no other means available..

Music can soothe, excite, calm, invigorate, relax or inspire us. During MY high school years music saved a few of us from boredom. Though not officially a “group” several of us were often allowed to get together and “jam” in the music hall when not in use.

I believe music…. ANY music has the power to open up your imagination, allow your thoughts to roam. The more you can connect to a certain piece, the more meaningful it is for you.
