Description
The Castle is a medieval fortification in Newcastle upon Tyne, which gave the City of Newcastle its name. The most prominent remaining structures on the site are the Castle Keep, the castle's main fortified stone tower, and the Black Gate, its fortified gatehouse. Built between 1247 and 1250 during the reign of King Henry III, the Black Gate was the last addition to the medieval castle defences. This black and white image was taken at night and shows the frontage of the building which is located in Castle Garth.
