All Tigers have striped skin as well as their fur. Skin color is pale-orange with black colored stripes. No two tigers ever have the same stripes, and this is how individual tigers can be identified. Most tigers have over 100 stripes. These magnificent animals are mostly found in southeastern Russian birch forests and is where their main habitat is. Any Tigers remaining in China and Korea their numbers are fading fast. The local people living in Siberia have great respect for these tigers. The Tungusic people refer to the Siberian tigers as 'Old Man' or 'Grandfather', while the Nanai people have named them as 'Amba'.The tiger is the biggest species of the cat family. Siberian tiger's legs are thick and large, the hind legs are larger and allow them to be good jumpers. Siberian tiger's huge paws have retractable claws. When hunting, the Siberian tigers can make rapid attacks and run faster than 50 miles per hour. Keeping this pace is however extremely energy consuming and Siberian tigers will only run short distances at this velocity. Tigers can see 6 times better at night than humans. Siberian tigers prefer to live a solitary life and have large territories; some of these areas being greater than 4000 square miles. Females generally live in families and take care of their cubs. A adult tiger's tail is 3 to 4 feet long, about half as long as its body. Tigers use their tails for balance when they run through fast turns. They also use their tails to communicate with other tigers. A group of tigers is known as an “ambush” or “streak”. Panthera tigris altaica is the scientific name for a Siberian tigerand are a endangered specis.
