Description
The black-crowned night herons come to Lettuce Lake Park in Tampa, Florida during the winter months. Rather than wade, they usually sit on a log and wait until they see prey before they make their move. Theblack-crowned night heron(nycticorax nycticorax) is the most widespead heron in the world and can be found on all continents except for Australia and Antarctica. They forage in freshwater, brackish water and saltwater wetlands from estuaries, marshes and swamps, to rivers, lakes and reservoirs. In the Americas they can be found in central southern Canada, most of the United States, Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, and most of South America.
