Description
The Komodo dragon, native to Indonesia's Lesser Sunda Islands, is the world's largest lizard species, growing up to 3 meters long and weighing over 100 kg. With its distinctive appearance and aggressive hunting behavior, the Komodo dragon has long captured the imagination of people worldwide. While they primarily feed on carrion, they are also skilled hunters, using their strong jaws and sharp teeth to ambush prey. They have been known to eat humans, including a Swiss tourist whose watch was found in the stomach of one. Despite their fearsome reputation, Komodo dragons are also under threat due to habitat loss, poaching, and climate change, and are classified as a vulnerable species on the IUCN Red List. Efforts are underway to protect the Komodo dragon and its habitat, including conservation programs in the Komodo National Park.
