Title
The Loneliness Of Being
Artist
Jeff Burgess
Medium
Digital Art - Giclee Print
Description
This work arises from viewing of a 1950 movie which is an American women-in-prison "noir" film directed by John Cromwell and starring Eleanor Parker among others. It was nominated for three Academy Awards.
Per Wikipedia, "the film portrays the story of a young newlywed sent to prison for being an accessory to a robbery. Her brutal experiences while incarcerated, along with the killing of her husband, transform her from a meek, naive woman into a hardened convict.
Why the dove? Because peace of mind can come from being lonely and accepting loneliness. But this loneliness can seem like one is in a cage - an ever present experience. The predominant blue color highlights the sense of depression and "blues" one might feel concomitant with isolation. The women peers out from behind the encaged dove with sad eyes making contact with the viewer. Is she isolated and caged like the dove? Ponder this.
