Description

Pencil drawing on paper of original construction of slip casted white clay sculpture. I used a mold for a large ashtray and a vase and poured 2 of the vase and one of the ashtray. This side shows the "M'Lady" half of a ceramic sculpture entitled, "Fountain Heads".

I used the vase upside down to create the head, cutting the base to give her bangs. I used the center of the ashtray to make her "crown". While still leather wet, I shaped the eyes and cut them open. I added this assembly to a bottom half of the ashtray to create the upper collar while the shirt is made of the vase's flange (Remember I said upside down?) Then I added some leather slip to give her hair. Attached behind the main character is her mate, "M'Lord". Here you see the back of his hair, crown and collar. This is one of many drawings found in my notebooks.
