Title
Chicago The Babylonian Farmer
Artist
Chicago In Photographs
Medium
Photograph - Fine Art Print
Description
Created by Alvin Meyer in 1930, the Babylonian Farmer is perhaps my favorite sculpture in all of Chicago. Standing over the entrance to the Chicago Board of Trade Building at 141 W. Jackson, what I like most about this relief is how the sun hits the face at different angles throughout the day and seasons.
There is an offsetting American Indian holding corn on the other side. Both the Babylonian Farmer holding a sheaf of grain and the American Indian holding the corn represent what the Chicago Board of Trade is all about.
All proceeds will be donated to Chicago's Cornerstone Community Outreach in honor of photographer Richard Cleis, 1965-2021.
