Driving from the north (Front Royal, Virginia) entrance to Shenandoah National Park, we found stands of these beautiful wildflowers starting about 20 miles or so to the south of our entry point. These Carolina Lilies are native, but according to National Park Service information, not particularly common in the park, occurring in sporadic clusters here and there. Carolina lilies are very similar in appearance to Turk’s Cap Lilies, both having upward-curving petals that meet at the top; the Turk’s Cap Lily is distinguished by a green center star in the bloom, that I didn’t see in any of these flowers. Nonetheless, these were quite exotic looking, and very beautiful.

What a beauty, this drama queen Lily 1, D.B..........when I was a girl, often the family went to Carnegie Hall in the time of Heifitz,et all, and for the first ever visit, my Father gave me a glorious Caroline Lily to mark the occasion...thanks for the reminder.........fav.........VIVA
