Description
This little guy was watching me intently as I walked along the riverbank last week. Living in Florida we have these small lizards everywhere in our yards and sometimes sneaking into our homes. They are not harmful and eat all sorts of insect and bugs. Like all lizards the Anole has movable eyelids and external earholes, but unlike mose other lizards each toe has an adhesive pad enabling it to climb and cling to many surfaces. The Brown Anole is native to Cuba and the Bahamas, unlike the Green Anole which is a true Florida native. lt was first discovered here in Florida in 1887. Some say the Brown Anole is responsible for the decline in the numbers of Green Anoles. It is true, that as a child growing up here in Florida almost all of the lizards we had were the Green Anoles. Many people here refer to them as "Yard Gators"
