Description
This is a reproduction of Rembrandt’s The Face of Jesus that was completed between 1648 and 1656. This is an oil on oak panel which measures 14.125 by 12.3125 inches and has been in the John G. Johnson Collection of the Philadelphia Museum of Art since 1917. The Dutch master was at most fifty years old when this painting was completed and he was embarking on a romantic affair with a much younger woman at that time. He was a few years away from bankruptcy as his years of living beyond his means were finally catching up with him. This was the beginning of the poverty which haunted him until his death in 1669.
