Greetings from Las Vegas. I am a new member here as of May 29 and slightly new to photography

A very basic question if I may. Is it advisable to submit images in some standard aspect ratio? Or, what aspect ratio has the best ability to generate sales?

Seems like I am always cropping my images for artistic preference but end up with many random formats. Do not know if this is detrimental for selling or eventually adding to products.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome, Timothy! Nice works up so far....I am by no means an expert but FAA is an expert in selling works with all sorts of aspect ratios and offering custom framing options. You can also "allow cropping" by the purchasers too....I don't recall how at the moment but I'm sure somebody will jump in and tell you. Good luck (skill) and God bless!

not really. know that a square shape if you have any, will limit the size to 48" max due to the material limits. so i avoid those for some. ratio's won't generate sales. having clear sharp work that holds an interest in people, with good descriptions and keywords, then advertised well on your end, that's what gets sales.

people buy pictures and figure out where to place them. i don't know of anyone that buys it based on shape. i crop it so i get the maximum amount of my picture and crop it in camera. i do try to keep it all one ratio though. so if people were trying to match things on a wall, they can. that said, my colorized images are all over the place. but it doesn't affect sales.

Hello

The sizes depend on your pixels. Unlike other sites we never crop or skew images to fit standard sizes, instead allowing the artist free scope to just upload what they have

The only limits we have are that one of your dimensions is going to be forced to fit the following list:

8″
10″
12″
14″
16″
20″
24″
32″
36″
48″

The other dimension will be scaled proportionally to maintain the aspect ratio of your image.

Here is a tutorial on images and products, sizes and filetypes

Timothy,

Welcome!

Nice stuff so far. Make sure that after you crop an image, you're not enlarging back to the original size. A couple of your images(mountains) seem to have been enlarged. FAA doesn't do ANY quality control on your images, UNTIL one is sold and if there are any issues with the image, they will not print it and you will lose the sale.

As far as formats, I would try and keep them as close to standard sizes as you can. Makes it easier for buyers to purchase....

Are you using a camera or a phone for these?

Rich

Welcome Timothy!

I don't have a lot of advice as I'm fairly new...just read what others are posting - they have some great advice and useful tips and links! Ask a question if you need to / want to and have fun exploring the site and learning new things!

I bought a few things from my site so I can see what they look like and have a few prints on order now as well. I'll suggest that's one thing to do so you are familiar with the ordering process, shipping times and product quality on different items.

Good luck!
