Announcement Brand New Premium Look

The BRAND NEW premium Websites have arrived. If you were unsure about upgrading before I know you will absolutely think about it seriously now!

Here is the membership plan page https://fineartamerica.com/membershipplans.html

Just login to your existing premium site and then look for the option at the top of your "Behind the Scenes" page that says Version #1 / Version #2.

Change it to Version #2, and you'll be using the new sites. You can change back to Version #1 at any time, if you want to, for around 3-4 months, and then all sites will be using the new version as we will remove the choice drop down. This will give you time to help us iron out any kinks

Here is an example of the new format:

https://isabella-shores.pixels.com

and another

https://lana-trussell.pixels.com/

Please share your links after you have had a play and let us see how beautiful they look.

Here is a short list of what is so cool about the premium sites that some of you may not yet have realised:

1. The new websites are fully "responsive". This means that they will display perfectly on iPads, iPhones, etc. If you shrink the size of your browser window on your laptop, you'll see the websites change their layouts as you resize the window.

2. The search engine has not changed at all and is identical to the search engine on FAA. You can search based on keywords, titles, artist names, or combinations of all three. You can search within your galleries, as well. You can also filter you search results based on size, shape, medium, colors, and more. However, of course, this is YOUR search engine and you do not share it with thousands of other artists.

3. The websites can still process payments in multiple currencies (e.g. British Pounds, Euros, etc.) and display measurements in inches or centimeters. The appropriate currency and measurements are selected automatically based on the user's location in the world - but the user can change them, if they wants to, down in the footer.

4. You can use your own domain name! If you don't like your-name.pixels.com, you can go out and buy any domain name of your choice and then use that name for the site.

5. When a buyer places an order, the credit card will display the URL of your website on the credit card statement. If your website is john-smith.pixels, then the buyer will see JOHN-SMITH.PIXELS.COM on his credit card statement. If your website is johnsmithprints.com, then the buyer will see JOHNSMITHPRINTS.COM on his credit card statement.

You can choose your slideshow slides, you can change the order of the homepage and you can get a wonderful, streamlined site that has been proven time and again to our marketing team to sell images.

If you are unsure about creating your own slides, use the ones Sean has created for you. Or use a site like http://canva.com to create your own style!

Here's what's important, for now:

These websites are designed to be selling machines. The goal is to get your buyer onto your site through your own marketing efforts... and as soon as he/she clicks on one of your images... the buyer is looking at something to buy.

There are lots and lots and lots of websites out there that can help you "showcase" your images (e.g. Wordpress, Blogger, Tumblr, SmugMug, etc.) Showcasing images is fun... selling them is much more fun. Plus, when you make a sale on your premium website, it moves you higher in the FAA search results, as well.

You've got the full power of FAA packed into your own website.

Give it a try, and let me know if you have any questions.

Do not forget to share your links below once you have made your own changes

Very nice, Don. I am positive customers will appreciate the ease and look of these new sites

As I say, it is a proven hit with customers already, hence giving them as our deluxe sites

If unsure where to change the slides and play with this,

Add this to the end of your website address once logged in

/controlpanel/websitesettings.html?locationid=3

Thanks, Abbie.

Quick question. Will it be possible to change the order of the collections when you click "View All"?

Currently, it defaults to the order that you created them in...which puts the oldest collections at the top of the page. Would rather have it show the current collection order. If not then the most recent collections or have the ability to reorder them ourselves. Preferably, it would be nice to have them in the order they are already assigned.

Or did I miss a setting somewhere?

Abbie Shores

The collections should be in the order you have them set already on FAA

Abbie,

They are not.

When you go to the custom site home page and click the "View All" Collections link they are ordered from oldest to newest.

This is how they should be.

https://fineartamerica.com/profiles/digitalartpros.html

This is how they are being displayed on the new custom site.

https://digitalartpros.com/collectiongroups

Please see if we can get that link corrected. You can see Mo's account does the same thing.

Thanks

When I "View All" my collections are in a strange order, not like on FAA.

My best selling collections are not at the front, also I have a collection for smaller images and one for apparel purley for my own convenience when updating prices so I want those at the end.

Don Northup

Yeah, I noted that above. It appears that the "View All" collections option does not retain the selected order on any new site, Abbie's included.

Linda Woods

I love this! Can I use my own background images in the slides or only choose from the ones offered?

I just uploaded a couple of pictures and OMG what a beautiful surprise! I love love love this look! It really is a double happy surprise for me as I just spent the weekend adding and organizing new collections so this is a perfect display for them. Thank you Pixels.

Linda,

You can change the background images on the slides in "Website Appearance".

Crystal Wightman

Abbie, I would like to point out... I removed Round Beach Towels from some images yesterday. As of today, when viewing Round Beach Towels, the images I removed still show up in the whole collection for towels as half of the image, and half a solid color, but when I clicked on said image, Round Beach Towel is not available. I don't know if this error is a glitch in the roll out of the new version or if it's an glitch in general.

https://crystal-wightman.pixels.com/shop/round+beach+towels

Purple Orchids is half image/half pink color.
Leading into the Tetons is a solid blue color.

There are a few others like that.

Go to the page I said and look at the SLIDES tab

There are a lot of settings there for your

SLIDE BUTTON

and MOBILE view

You can also create your own totally Custom Slides (which you can create yourself or use Canva.com for)

Crystal

That is the normal search cache issue. They will disappear

Looks like you have fixed the collection order. That was fast. Thanks!

Abbie Shores

Collections issue is now fixed

Gill Billington

Oh thank you. View all now goes to the collections in the correct order.

I just think it would be nice if all the collections showed without having to click on view all

Abbie Shores

Note you can delete slides and create custom slides

However, the site is pretty idiot proof now (which I need) as you can easily replace them with our created ones by clicking on the ARTWORK ON THE WALL drop down when creating a new slide

Linda Woods

Thanks, Abbie. I just can't see where to upload my own slide image instead of using the 5 options listed.

NEVERMIND, I found it.

+1 on the bug thread. I just hope people won't flood it with junk that is not a bug because they have not looked over and tested the available options, or searched for relevant information on this thread. The percentage of redundant questions (and answers) is quite high, and as Abbie said, it seems like a lot of people are asking questions before they even look at (and try) the available options and settings --> and/or have looked at this thread for answers.

Cheers

I don't want this to get lost. Just copy/paste one of Don's posts from yesterday:

". . . If you click to another collection page using next under the collections on the home page, and then you click back to the home page using any method like the site name, a home link in the announcements or wherever else, the collections stay on the page they were last on for the viewer instead of reverting back to the first page of collections.

You can even navigate away from the site and then come back to your home page and the collections are still stuck on the last collection page you viewed.

It shouldn't be working like that."

It's still doing this. I CAN hit Previous half a dozen times and get back to the beginning, but I can't get there by clicking on my name.

Abbie - any chance of a video, YouTube, of just the basics for people just starting to make the changes?
Your screen shots and Don's and some of the others here in one place would help people who need that kind of visual instruction to follow step by step.
It would cut down on the repeat questions.

Then a new discussion on the remaining bugs and the more fancy and complicated things beyond the basics (that I think scare some people) would be great.

I think the new threads idea is a moot point now.
If you take (this) big thread and click BIG SKIP off, even the server chokes - it's unable to render many of the avatar pictures.

I like the idea of two new sticky threads:
1. bugs thread
2. how do I do this thread

Thanks Dave B! That's a good idea about the social media. I always like to invite people to get to know me more or something to that effect, rather than asking them to "Follow."

Thanks for the tips Lutz! I plan to play around and make a few different slides sometime if I get some spare time this week, I will keep what you said in mind!

Pretty cool with the changes so far. I did have some trouble changing the order of my artwork and the only solution I was able to find was to switch to Version #1 and do it there and switch back to Version #2. The instructions may be buried in this long thread, but I only have so much time to spare. Glad to know that the slide settings I had applied to Version #2 were sticky, so I didn't have to re-edit them.

FWIW, I would like to see a comprehensive instruction set once the bugs have been worked through. It would also be worthwhile to querry some of the artists who've made the most of the customization features to explain their methods. Again, some of those features are probably contained in the lengthy thread......I guess I need the Cliff Notes. ;p

https://douglas-pittman.pixels.com/art

BTW, I saw the sort feature, but wanted to do something besides the choices offered there, ie: best sellers, most comments, recently added, etc.

Hey. I've been away for quite some time due to severe flu....don't let that stuff come back and grab you a second time....puts you in the hospital! Tonight is my first night back on the computer and looks like it's just in time. Trying out the Version 2 of the new site, and I really do like this format. I'll be playing with it to see what I can accomplish. This is what I've done so far:

https://linda-cox.pixels.com/

There are some really great, artistic sites showing up. Love 'em.

Carel Schmidlkofer

What if we don't choose? Are we automatically switched over to #2 if we are already premium? Or do you just kick us off the site?

Angie Tirado

Was able to incorporate some of the new features today. Overall, I like the slideshow option and the layout is good for giving viewers more selections to browse on the homepage, but I do wish it had more customizing options. For example, being able to show metal or acrylic prints or a home decor item for example, and different placement of text would be cool too.

Now that I was able to work with it a bit today without issues, I do think I can tweak it more to finish the home page off nicely.

Thank you Sean, Abbie and remaining FAA crew for your efforts, I know this was a big undertaking and I do appreciate the efforts you are making to keep these AW sites relevant to engage our visitors.

I had time today and played with Version #2. Also I did the Cloudflare settings and waiting for my "https".

Shari,

It looks like you might have missed some settings on Cloudflare. You are using Cloudflare now but it looks like you still need to do these settings.

Crypto Settings

SSL - Full
Minimum TLS version - 1.2
Always use HTTPS - ON
Automatic HTTPS Rewrites - ON

If you have any trouble see one of the Cloudflare threads.

Two questions and one issue encountered:

QUESTIONS:
Is there a limit to the number of slides you can display on your site? I'm sure it's been asked and answered, but I couldn't find it.

Is there a way to have the "Start Shopping" button go to /shop and a click on the photo go to the photo's page? I hate when I go to a site that's showing an image that I love and want to buy, but when I click on it, it takes me to "general shopping" and I have to search through pages of items to find it.

ISSUE:
I created three slides and clicked Apply Changes. I opened a new tab in my browser and launched a second instance of my pixels site in that second tab to see how it looked and how it reacted to my clicks, etc. It all looked great. Then I clicked back on my first instance of my pixels site, where I was designing the slides, and it kind of flickered, then deleted all three of the slide designs I had created, returning me to the home page>Slides tab with the default slide, like I had never created my three slides. And definitely YES I clicked "Apply Changes" before leaving the page. What could I have done to have that occur? I'm afraid to start over for fear that it will delete all my work again.

I THINK I FOUND THE CULPRIT! The Slide Title cannot handle the ampersand. I titled it with the name of my collection that this slide represented (Coastal & Tropical), and it hung and then deleted all my work, not only on the slide I was working on, but the other two slides as well.
