I dabbled at drawing throughout my younger years. I drew pencil drawings from the pictures I took of the animals we shipped on airplanes around the world at our family business; an animal transportation agency. Never really painting seriously, I attended Palomar College in North County San Diego California for commercial art and then El Camino in Redondo Beach and Santa Monica College in California taking classes towards my AA in Art all the while working as a bookkeeper/receptionist at the business. I took classes like Printmaking, Commercial art fundametals, Color Theory at Woodbury University and computer art at Multimedia Institute in Palmdale California. Where ever I moved I took classes in art. Mostly I went to night school also while taking care of my three beautiful children. When I moved to Kansas I took classes toward my AA in Liberal arts and advanced drawing classes at Avila University toward my BA in Fine art specializing in Art Therapy while attending therapy much like Grandma Layton who was bipolar and well known for her contour drawing and therapy through contour drawing. This is the first time I have posted my artwork to an online site as I now have the time to paint and explore different mediums. What little art I've done has been given away over the years but I continue to take art classes and am currently painting in pastel, watercolor and acrylics and pen. I am still learning day by day and I don't have a style although as much as I like conventional realistic painting, I find I am not as skilled at that and I venture more toward loose painting. Taking the steps to put down paint in order to create something interesting to look at is what I strive for as my moods sometimes determine what and how I paint. I am grateful to have this outlet and I find my art to be rather folksy. Yes! Folksy.
