Steve's first camera was given to him when he was but a wee lad of two...maybe three years old. His parents took it away shortly thereafter when he displayed a distinct inability to grasp the concept of 'film advancement'.
A less than auspicious beginning, to be sure, but Steve got a second chance a few years later when he received a Kodak FlashFun Hawkeye camera for Christmas. Nothing and no one were safe; he became quite bothersome to family, friends and critters alike. He turned a page in high school when he enrolled in a photography class. His father gave him his Argus C44R 35mm rangefinder camera; he signed up for the yearbook staff and became annoying to a whole new group people.
Steve spent eight of his twenty year Marine Corps career as a photographer, providing all manner of photographic support: mixing chemicals, processing film, making prints, and shooting everything from accident scenes, portraits and passport photos to photojournalism spreads and supporting artwork for military print media (newspaper, magazine and recruitment).
Steve's photographic experiences have naturally molded his photographic sensibilities. He tends to lean toward documentary and candid photography, and much of what he does is what he calls, 'Found Photography'. Generally, his workflow will go one of two ways; he may see something of interest in his travels and, if he can't stop, he will double-back later to explore that subject further. Other times he will go out to shoot without a specific subject in mind, to see what he can see, shooting what inspires him. His work reflects both approaches.
