This collection was a dream five years ago; an idea tossed around when an opportunity presented itself to travel throughout the thumb area of my home state of Michigan. My life, my family and my memories revolve around this state and to have the opportunity to meander through the backroads of the thumb has transformed my view of what life should be.
As a great-grandmother, grandmother, mother and wife; my life has had many ups and downs; but thanking the good Lord for waking up in the mornings has been my pleasure for over sixty years. He has put me through hurdles I thought I would never survive and yet, here I am. He presented me with an opportunity to learn what living in the moment means. Through this endeavor, I have developed a patience I have rarely known in my life before this venture. It has taught me to slow down and embrace the little moments that many miss rushing through their days. He has taught me to appreciate the past for it's lessons, the present for it's opportunities, and the future for all that it could be if we stay focused in the present.
These barns are a reflection of those seasons we all go through in life. In their youth, these fabulous structures providing shelter, a place to work or gather for special occasions. Barns, like family, have a foundational strength that helps it survive the worst of times. However, over time, if we choose to ignore those foundations, they become weak and frail; eventually collapsing to the earth, a memory faded and a past forgotten.
As much as that saddens me, I also understand the importance of captured memories; those moments frozen in time by the snap of a camera. My collection is that for me. A collection of memories that I will cherish for the rest of my days.
