NOTE: Due to increasing instances of piracy of images, I have decided to add the Fine Art America watermark to images displayed. This watermark is for online viewing and to discourage unauthorized use. If you order an image, the watermark WILL NOT SHOW on the final print.
I discovered my creative side over 30 years ago when I began photographing the beautiful landscapes in Asheville, North Carolina. Even then, I was intrigued by light, shapes, and color patterns. Now, many of my photographic images are extreme close-ups of small sections of larger, unusual elements such as
rust on a truck fender
discolorations on stone walls
bark on a tree
When I get REAL CLOSE, I often see wonderful landscapes or whimsical images and try to capture them on film.
Although I still enjoy photography and can't resist searching around old buildings and anything with rust or peeling paint, I felt somewhat confined by photography's limitations. I wanted to add more depth and texture to my work. Influenced by my late mother-in-law, Fort Myers artist Pat Eng LaVigne, I began by exploring mixed media. I incorporate paint and a variety of papers, fabrics, and items from nature into my work, sometimes using one of my abstract macro photographs as the background and building on it. Generally I create landscapes and seascapes, but occasionally I'll end up with something a little different.
Now I work in a variety of media, including watercolor and acrylics, as well as the mixed media. Most of my work is small to medium sizes. Subjects vary as I travel and come back filled with images to put to paper. Although self-taught for the most part, I have attended a number of workshops and classes to improve my skills.
My works have won numerous awards and my art is in collections throughout the country. My art is greatly influenced by places I have lived and traveled - from the mountains of North Carolina to the desert southwest, from the shores of Cape Cod to the tropical setting of southwest Florida. My art is organized to help you find something that will appeal to you. Enjoy your visit.
If you see something you'd like customized with a particular greeting on the cover for a poster or greeting card, let me know and I'll try to accommodate you.
A Collection is also shown that includes my original paintings available for purchase. Most are small to mid-size and usually under $300 unframed.
