Rosine Smith was born on the island of Antigua, but now resides in the Virgin Islands. The culture, and style of the people of the islands have always intrigued her, and she began painting, writing, telling, and illustrating her 'stories of the islands' at an early age.
She is a highly skilled fibre artist as well as an accomplished painter. She works in several media; exploring a myriad of styles. She says: 'I enjoy painting stories from my childhood days. I think about a scene or incident and paint. I have to compose the painting in my head because that scene does not exist anymore.”
Rosine has no formal training in art, but she holds a B A Degree in Accounting from The University of the Virgin Islands. She taught Computer Applications at the Day-adult Education Center for many years and has also taught art in the Public Schools.
Rosine says, 'I am a Seventh-day Adventist Christian Artist. I love the Lord and I love all peoples. I am humbled when I think of the Master Designer, Jehovah God, whose work has inspired me and has motivated me to paint. When I paint, I strive to capture the style, the soul, the architecture, the color, the laughter, and the dialect of the Caribbean I knew in the 1950s. Especially, I struggle to capture the RHYTHM!'
