When not painting commissions, for variety and for fun he enjoys painting animal portraits ( especially horses, cats and dogs), local scenes, gardens and favourite flowers, usually painted in acrylics on board or canvas.
Richard particularly loves to paint human and animal portraits with the extremely versatile ATELIER INTERACTIVE ACRYLICS on paper or canvas. He is largely self-taught - WATERCOLORS in the seventies, PASTEL paintings of still life, landscapes and human and animal portraits throughout the eighties and nineties - OILS from 1995 and ACRYLICS from 2004 when he moved from Edinburgh to the ancient Royal Burgh of Peebles in the Scottish Borders.
After 15 very happy years in Peebles, Richard has returned to Edinburgh. Presently, he is enjoying furnishing a new studio.
Richard will continue to organize the annual PEEBLES ART GROUP EXHIBITION which is held in The Gallery, Tweeddale Museum, Chambers Institution, High Street, Peebles, Scottish Borders. This is open to members, previous exhibitors and invited artists.

It is helpful if you can send several photos including a clear one of the head. Most popular sizes are: (a) 14ins x 10ins ( 36cm x 25cm) or (b) 20ins x 16ins (50cm x 40cm ). However, Richard also paints other sizes (smaller or larger when appropriate ) - the choice is yours - 10ins x 8ins on canvas board have been popular recently.
An email copy of the finished painting ( landscape, floral or portrait ) will be sent to you for your approval. If you are not entirely satisfied with the finished painting simply return it for a full refund..
