Born in 1956 in New York, New York, I was one of two children of working class parents. To some I was considered a latch key baby. My sister and I were left to do the household chores that many stay at home parents did back in the day.
My photographic eye and creativity was inherited from my father. As far back as I can remember, he was the one with a camera in hand at all times trying to capture that 'special moment'. His equipment was quite extensive for that time. The only thing lacking was his very own darkroom.
I graduated the State University of New York at Albany in the Spring of 1978. It was then I received my first SLR camera. It was a Cannon semi automatic camera.
I married in 1982, had my first daughter in 1985 and three years later was blessed with a second daughter. Although pictures were taken, due to the day to day craziness of child rearing and the advent of instamatic and point and shoot digital photography, my SLR camera went into hibernation.
My images with my point and shoots were vivid, creative and tack sharp and was encouraged by friends and family to pursue photography even further. It wasn't until March 2011, after my eldest daughter married that I indulged and splurged on my first DSLR... a Nikon D3100 with a crop sensor. This is the camera I currently use as of today!
Up 'til now I have taken two courses in photography. The first was at the famed Nikon School of Photography teaching the basics of photography. The second was with the master of macro photography... Mike Moats and his famous Boot Camps. I do a lot of self study and and shoot as often as possible. I do believe that 'practice makes perfect'. I currently use Photoshop Elements 11 as my editing software with Nik's Viveza 2 as a plug in. I believe that photography is to a photographer what painting is to an artist. Keeping that thought in mind I have now started to incorporate fine art graphics i.e. textures, overlays etc. into my work to take my photography to the next level.
