Artist’s Statement
I have been a photographer for many years. I began taking pictures while I was in college. I progressed through different cameras and procedures until I finally acquired my own darkroom. I labored in the dark with chemicals and drums and reached the level that I could produce color prints. I especially enjoyed cibachrome prints from color slides. They had beautiful color and detail. But even through all of this, I knew there had to be a better way. There was a better way, but it took many years to mature into the way of the future.
Digital photography announced early in its development that one day it would be as good as film based photography. That promise was not delivered in a short period of time, but it is now true. Digital from the camera through the computer to the print has exceeded anything from the darkroom.
We must take great care with these amazing tools we now have. We have to realize that these tools are for the purpose of enhancing the visualization of artistic photography. It is not a replacement for that artistic statement. Art is something that is dreamed up in your heart and expressed. It is a scene that you see in your own vision and expressed through your medium. My expression is photography. All the technology available cannot replace the creative working of the artist.
I love to see the picture take shape from the first idea to the final print. You have to love the process.
