I was born in a small mountain town but spent most of my childhood in states surrounding Washington, D.C. I am now transplanted to the sunny state of Florida.
Everyone in my family is an artist of one sort or another. My mother sang professionally for a bit and loved sketching and ceramic painting; my father is a scientific linguist, teacher, singer-songwriter and plays piano beautifully. My siblings all have artistic talent of one type or another. Ancestors who came and went before us all excelled at resourcefulness, a skill which is rooted in creativity.
As a youngster, I expressed my artistic nature by writing, playing guitar and singing; as a young adult in fiber arts, crafts of all sorts and in photography. While I have always had an artistic eye and an intrinsic need to express myself through art, I was also fortunate to live temporarily with Lois Bergert, an accomplished fine art artist who also taught college and high school art. I was inspired most by her fiber and sculpting work.
As an adult I moved back to the mountains for a few years where I embraced nature and my artistic side more deeply. It was there that I discovered painting. Through books, I began to learn oil and acrylic painting techniques while also exploring my ongoing interest in photography and other creative arts.
My work has been exhibited and privately sold in both juried and non-juried art shows as well as gift shops in the states of West Virginia and Maryland. More recently, I have painted many wall murals and done photographic work for private individuals or through commissioned order in the state of Florida.
I have been featured on COF Promotions in the Visual Arts category and in multiple web-based fine art galleries on Fine Art America/Pixels.com.
