Here at FineArtAmerica and my personal websites: pixsee.co.uk and malcolm-bray.pixels.com, I am showcasing digital, mixed media and hand painted interpretations of music related themes and subjects: musicians, instruments, performers etc. With a passion and love of music, I find this offers me my favourite material for interpretation and development.
Derivative works like these are presented here as enhanced portraits of the world's great musicians and other popular personalities. Each work is unique in the processes used to create them. I combine traditional techniques of pencil and pigment with digital brushwork, textural overlays, colour enhancements and layered motifs to create images that aim to 'fit' the subject's individual personality,'look' or particular talent. I prefer a more expressive and fluid approach that prohibits me from falling into a predictable style or mannered look.

For all of these artworks I seek always to work from free to use copyright free photographic material suitable for subsequent commercial usage. Much of these come from Wikipedia and Flickr and also many from professional photographers who have so kindly allowed me access to their portfolios. Bryan Ledgard, Vaughan Youtz, Jim Summaria, Jean-Paul Margnac, Dena Flows and Keenan Neighbors are just some of the many professional photographers who have offered me their superb photographs to work with. If any work I have created on this site is mistakenly not based upon copyright free photography, I humbly apologise as it will absolutely not have been my intention to do so. I always check the licensing terms very carefully but licenses can and do change and some search engines list the licensing details incorrectly and it is therefore possible some may slip through the net without my knowledge. Such works I will remove immediately, as I totally respect photographer's rights and ownership of such material. A quick email will illicit immediate removal by me.
I also have on display here some photographic works. Following the visual approach that Ansel Adams once famously articulated as - 'You don't take a photo, you make it'. I like also to develop my own photographic images which capture the spirit of places and things.
By recreating not only what I saw but also how I felt, I encourage my memory to enhance those experiences further, through subsequent development and modification, whilst preserving the basic integrity of the subject.
