Lee Baker DeVore's work focuses on the natural world, the earth and forces of nature, where she is most connected and feels the most alive. She prefers to work intuitively and gesturally, in a unique style influenced by impressionists and expressionists, with a splash of Oriental brushwork. She creates paintings, collages & drawings, with oils, acrylics, torn papers, natural objects and ink, as well as using found objects as tools and earth pigments as pigments (like mud, berries, flower petals, whatever is handy).
Lee received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Miami University, but she began her artistic journey as far back as she can remember. There is no time when she has not created art in innumerable ways. It is an outlook. A way of seeing. A way of living that produces the works to share.
She completed one year of masters work before leaving to marry, raise a family in rural SW Ohio, and partner in establishing and running a Landscape design/build company in the Greater Cincinnati Area. Even though this meant lean years in the studio, she still held a number of exhibitions locally over the years, and has won several awards in regional exhibitions.
She is retired from the business now and resides in Oxford, Ohio, pursuing life and creative endeavors, and participating in the local artistic community.
