My fascination with patterns stems from my love of numbers. While mathematics has been integral in my working career in finance, my other love is painting. My subject matter is inspired by photographs taken by friends and family.
I see a photograph in terms of color, line and geometry. These qualities appeal to my sense of order and design (my fascination with numbers translated into art). There are times when a single photograph and the resulting abstract painting leads to another path -- and another painting -- and sometimes a third or fourth version from the same photo.
When I draw something, I start with the shapes and then I add the color. After that, and as I move along, I look for balance of shapes and balance of color and flow and how my eye moves around the page. My work often changes from the original intent as it moves along -- fixing/adjusting all these things for balance and flow.
