She's an American living on the edge of the Black Forest in Germany. Kirsten works in watercolors, scratchboard, graphite and colored pencils, as well as digital; illustrating sea creatures big and small, from crawling starfish to drifting plankton that produce up to half the oxygen we breath. While diving with Weddell Seals in Antarctica, she realized what she loves most about being both scientist and artist is sharing her explorations of the underwater world with curious and adventurous children and grown ups. She would like people who live nowhere near an ocean (like her growing up in Kansas City, Missouri) to feel her connection with these amazing sea creatures; from diving in Antarctica to rescuing plankton on a beach in Hawaii. She is on a quest to share their stories and fathom the connection between the singing bird in her European garden to the singing whale off the island of Hawaii.
