Through The Broken Glass
This series of paintings is inspired by Ingmar Bergman’s film “Through a Glass Darkly”. I saw it in Greece, during my adolescence, and this was the exact Greek translation of the Swedish title. I was going through a dark time myself and was deeply impressed by the film which, many decades later, helped me clear up certain destructive “motherly” darkness influencing my being as a woman as well as my sense of sanity. I never suffered from illusions, as in the film. However, my mother was constantly on her her chief goal: proving me as “insane.” Being a narcissistic “mother” herself, her place should have been in an asylum-not raising children. Finally she died at the age of 95, after having managed to completely destroy the lives of her entire family. “Thank you mother-go to Hell, mother.”
