Artist's Statement
I create convergent media artwork - a process both reliant on and inspired by light. I blend multiple influences, techniques, and technologies, such as photography, painting, collage, print technology, and acrylic embellishment. My work starts with a tangible object or place and ends with a physical canvas or print. Between those two time points it is transformed by my inner vision (aided by mathematical algorithms beyond my ken!) to produce the image you see before you; inspired and transformed by light.
I love to travel, and to capture images of the people and places that I visit. I find myself particularly drawn to reflected light; many of my works include water and boats and I often add images of pure light into my art, to enhance the effect of the natural light.
Working with various digital filters, brushes, and texture layers I modify the original image to achieve a more stylistic, painterly feel which highlights the detail in the areas that catch my eye. The differing qualities of light have always left me breathless, and I love to incorporate pure light into my work, blending my subject matter with photographs of light reflected on water, lightning, the stars... My technique has been inspired by several contemporary graphic artists and photographers, particularly Melissa Gallo and Sebastian Michaels.
