Born in small town Alberta, Canada I grew up in Edmonton and Calgary but lived most of my adult life in Toronto and New York City.   Initially I was a collector of art buying my first oil painting by the Canadian painter Gerald Squires in 1967 shortly after moving from Alberta to Toronto.   This passion for art collection continued through the years until I moved to the Upper West Side of Manhattan in 1995 having accepted a professorship at Columbia University.   While in Toronto and New York City my professional life, spanning almost 40 years, was devoted to cancer epidemiology firstly at the...more
