Born in Milwaukee Wisconsin, Joe’s mother was an amateur artist who started his lifelong interest in art. A wonderful elementary school art teacher furthered his awareness and curiosity.
Painting took a hiatus during four years at the US Naval Academy and four years in the US Navy. Upon returning to civilian life Joe gradually resumed his painting. He has taken art classes at the Layton School of Art in Milwaukee, Florida Atlantic University in Palm Beach and at Brevard College, and attended various artists’ workshops. Joe also follows several artist's blogs. However, he is mostly self-taught. Joe says he has learned his craft “by trial and error and error and error.”
Since retiring from business, Joe has been able to devote more of his time to his painting. He lives with his wife in Pisgah Forest, North Carolina, near The Dupont State Forest. The Forest and the surrounding area are inspiring sources for many of his works. Joe’s paintings are in private collections in Indiana, Wisconsin, Florida and North Carolina. His paintings have won numerous awards at regional art shows.
