I am a self-taught Southern California female artist. I am driven to draw and paint in order to understand the world I live in. When I am not creating for a day or two, I become anxious. My process is based on live sketches, images from my head and bits and pieces of reference photos. I do freehand drawing and the compositions are not preplanned. It is weeks of drawing onto a canvas before the painting process begins. It's a constant stream of consciousness. Each painting or drawing takes a month or two to do so I am always working on more than one piece at times. I am a doodler in that I am constantly adding more imagery as I am working. My professional art practice began in 1992. I have been reviewed in the Boston Globe, Flavorpill, LA Times, Daily News, and The Chronicle Review. Other publications include an interview and publication of my works in Hair's How Magazine (Russia high fashion,2012), Studio Visit Magazine (volume 19, 2012), Art and Living, Art Calendar Magazine (cover),Harpers Magazine, Studio Visit Magazine (Ocean Press), 2007 Emerging Artist Calendar and others. In 2008 and 2009 I decided to go back to school to get a BA in art. While there, I received the University Scholars Award for my 'CREATE' Program. This unique community service based art program was targeted for High School students in need of art programs. I am proud to say I graduated with honors. Last year I received 3rd. place in the 'Alchemy of Art Exhibition' juried by esteemed Los Angeles critic, Peter Frank. Other noted curators who have selected my work in juried gallery exhibits in Los Angeles are Ann Philbin, Franklin Sirmans, Ali Subotnic, Shulamit Nazarian,Cliff Benjamin, Bert Green, and Marc Pachter.
I am noted for my unique depictions of centers for communal exchange, specifically barbershops, malls and cafes. I also create graphite drawings depicting children in today's world, paintings on paper using her own created collage elements as well as paintings on used recycled materials such as soccer balls, and broken plates or furniture to paint on. I have an extensive exhibition record in regional institutions and galleries.
Other projects: guest speaker at CSUN for Senior Projects Class and CSUN ARTS COUNCIL, Guest Artist teacher for Northridge Academy charter school and Canoga Park High to assist high school students to create identity based art based on her program CREATE.
