Haha, I love this picture. It was taken while I was still in high school...1989...working on a batik lovingly titled 'The Hand.' I have always been a bit obvious when titling my artwork. 'The Hand' currently resides in my son's room and will probably be placed here on fine art america once I am able to have the digital image created.
I got my start and developed my love for batik in high school with a wonderful art instructor by the name of Noreen Shanafelt. She was great at pushing me to try new things, to experiment artistically and to have fun. I never would have continued on and developed my talent without her encouragement. Thank you Mrs. Shanafelt, wherever you are.
Years later...I met my wife and we married, started our family, and creating batiks was naturally pushed to the back burner for many years. 5 kids and twenty some years later I am finally dusting off the things I have learned and putting them to use.
My hope is that you enjoy what I create, I have a desire to share these pieces that have brought myself and my family joy over the years and to create new pieces that we can enjoy into the future. Please leave a comment and let me know what you think!
