Evan Harrington, archivist

These pages were created to highlight the photography of Phillip Harrington, who worked as a professional photojournalist from 1940 until about 1990 when he retired. The images here span the range of 50 years, both in America and internationally. Notably, Harrington photographed Elvis Presley early in 1956, a critical year in Presley's career. In 1957 Harrington traveled to Communist China in violation of a United States edict banning American journalists from entering China. In doing so, Harrington stressed the importance of the freedom of the press, and later won the prestigious George Polk journalism award for his photographic essay, published in Look Magazine.

The photographs here are managed by Phil Harrington's son Evan Harrington. All images shown here have been carefully scanned and/or adjusted by Evan to enhance the overall quality of the image in order to bring to you the best possible print quality. These images are available for commercial licensing exclusively through Alamy (or contact me directly). Please check back frequently new images will be added on an ongoing basis.
